Location: At 93 Mile, turn east off Hwy 97 onto Hwy 24. Travel to the town of Lone Butte (approx. 11 miles). Continue east on Hwy 24 for another 3.2 km (2 miles). Some anglers gain access through the BC Rail property on the west side of the lake, however, BC Rail forbids trespassing on their property.

Resorts & Campsites: None. Most of the shoreline is private property.

Fishing Report: Good rainbow fishing. Popular fly fishing lake because of the abundance of invertebrates throughout the lake. Freshwater scuds, diving beetle larvae, dragon fly and damsel fly nymphs, water boatmen and leeches fill out the rainbows diet.

Viewscape: Flat and gently rolling. Completely forested on all sides except for a cleared area. Most of the south and east sides of the lake are dominated by maturing Lodgepole pine and Engleman spruce. Ponderosa pine are also in the area. The north and east sides of the lake are dominated by Western birch and some alder.

Shoreline: 2,814 meters (9,232 feet). Except for the south end, the shoreline slopes gently into the lake and is inundated by large patches of reeds and decaying scrub and trees due to high water level. Shoreline is shallow. Water substrate is dominated by cobble-boulder and fines.

Nearby Lakes

Fawn Lake - Turn off is just past Irish Lake east on Hwy 24. Watch for the signs on the north side of the road. Fawn is another small (32.3 hectares), but very productive rainbow lake. Rainbows in the 5 lb class are common. However, due to the presence of Lake Chubb, much larger rainbows in the 10 to 12 lb. range have been reported. Lake Trout are also present. Spinning, trolling and flies have met with great success. It is reported that there is a large chironomid hatch in the spring which fly fishermen should watch for. There is a resort located on Fawn Lake and a public access road to the water.
